My Latest Milestone

Hey guys!!
So I haven't seen any new threads on the rave board lately; nothing overwhelmingly positive or cheery, so I thought I'd share my news.
I'm not gloating or anything, for the record, just figured that many of you on here are my friends and/or acquaintences, and who better to share good news with than friends?
So...
As of yesterday, I'm a homeowner!!!
Yaaaaaaaaay!!! Owning a house has been my goal for a long time, and I've been trying to achieve it seriously for the last few months. I had searched here and there, had one mishap with a home I almost baught but the seller was difficult, I couldn't decide for a while where I wanted my son to go to school, etc. etc. etc.
But it turns out, that even though I'm in a town I hadn't seriously considered from day one, even though I'm farther away from my family than I originally planned, even though my new house isn not exactly new and it does need some damn hard work put into it to make it our own, even though there were some stressful times between putting in the offer and closing the deal, it looks like we've picked the perfect house in the perfect spot, and we're super excited about our kid's school.
I thought I'd have to live out in the middle of nowhere so that my son could attend the school we wanted for him, but alas, we actually found a house with walkable sidewalks, a ton of stuff within walking distance and a bus stop right down the road.
I've been cleaning my ass off for the past two days, and my family has been sacrificing their time and resources to help us settle in, as has my partners, and we're nowhere near done. But I feel like I've won the lotto. lol.
Geting the keys to that house was the most exilerating highlight since my son was born, even though I knew that the person who handed me those keys, the previous homeowner, was a nasty, cunning piece of work that left the kitchen and bathrooms in a nasty state of horror. lol.
So yeah guys. I'm proof that when you want something enough, you work hard to make it happen, and you see it through, it's the best feeling in the world. lol.
Now.
Who wants to come help me clean my new house? haha. Screw the traditional housewarming party; I am throwing a housecleaning party instead. Slobs and poor cleaners need not apply. lol. Handy people and hard workers prefered.

hahahahaa
Cheers!!

No beer, no help. Lol
Coolness. It is a wonderful feeling.
Even when you are scrubbing the toilet someone else used. Smile.
Congrads girl. U go!

Dam right, wayne. And you best believe I was doing that very thing: first thing I did was scrubbd those toilets.
The house has three bathrooms, and not a single one featured a clean toilet. it's almost like the previous owners packed up their crap, moved it all out and then came back to take a huge dump in each one, shit on the seat and all. lol
But hey, it's mine now, and shitty situations can turn spotless with some evfort. hahaha. literally.
Oh, and, wayne, I provide my helpers with booze and food, for the record. I already did for the past two days.
Wanna join? lol. (grins)

Congrats that's great news. Owning a home is not easy, but lots of joy too. you know that what you put in and invest in is yours... Enjoy.

Congrats! So nice to be able to paint the walls or make upgrades or whatever you want without asking or having to negotiate!

Yeah, and believe me, we've been doing upgrades and painting for the last week. In a whole week, my awesome crew of family and friends has helped us: repaint the house, pick up and install new appliances, redo the whole kitchen including the cabinets and sink, redo the whole back porch from scratch, fence the yard, and of course, general scrubbing and cleaning since the last owner left the playce a pigstye.
I am ever so grateful to the people who are here to help out, and thanks to all of you guys who have extended their congrats to me.
:)

This entire post has put a huge smile on my face. There are few things more satisfying than getting the keys to your very own place. Congratulations! If I were closer, I'd definitely come help. Word to the wise, go ahead and get gloves and a mask and clean out the drains in the tubs and sinks too. I had to do that here and there was some scary shit down there. lol I think Sasquach lived here before me. Anyway, it sounds like you got an amazing location too. Again, congrats.

Yeah, the drains were like something out of the horders' tv show. Although these people weren't necessarily hoarders, they sure were nasty.
My uncles ripped out the cabinets in the kitchen, and found dead bugs and worms literally plastered behind the cupboards.
Oh. and in the master bedroom , some disgusting screwball stuck nose boogers all over the walls. Literally. Nose booger art. You took a spunge to the wall with some lysol or some other solution, and the stuff literally dissolved into ooey gooey blobs of nose yuck. So we just resorted to bleaching the walls instead.
Now the place is painted and sparkling-clean, I'm tempted to invite the former owners to see how nondisgusting people live. Except if I did that, they'd probably bring more bugs and boogers along with them. lol.
Disgraceful.
How could anyone leave such grossness behind and expect others to find it and clean up after them. I would die of shame.

Wow, and to think that the people who bought our old house were pissed b/c I didn't have time to clean the laundry room floor where the washer was. They wanted us to hire a cleaning service. I was like, "uh, hell nah! Yall were the ones who wanted us out so quickly so suck it." lol Ok, so I didn't say that exactly but something similar. lol

Gross, booger art! I think I'd rather deal with dead bugs and worms. lol

Post 12 by ADVOCATOR! (Finally getting on board!) on Tuesday, 11-Aug-2015 19:35:23

I think this is wonderful news!
And, it's cool, when you hear positive stuff like this!

I wanted to see what this board was about, because I smacked a milestone in the guts today! And, it's nice to hear others are successful too!
And, one thing I learned is conventional isn't the in thing, anyway! It's challenging to look for a place, and especially one you can afford. So Congratulations! Happy cleaning! Wish I could travel there to help. I may not be able to do floors, but counters are a specialty of mine! *Smile!
Blessings!
Sarah

Major congratulations to you on the new house! I'm also guessing that, much as you shouldn't have had to put all this work into it right now, it will make it feel more like yours when you're done with it. Still, how someone could leave a house in such appalling condition, and then expect it to sell, is beyond me. I hope you got it for some crazy low price, with all the work you're having to put into it. I'd say you're going to raise it's value by thousands of dollars. Unbelievable! I'm glad you have the man-power there to help with everything that's needed. Family and friends can be a real blessing like that. So, good luck, and congrats again!

Huge hugs and congrats on getting your own house. Dead bugs, worms, and snot art on the walls? Oi, not fun to clear up, but glad people are able to help you guys get all that sorted. Please keep us posted on how things are going with adjusting to the new place, your son's adjustment to the school this coming year, etc. so happy for you. *smiles*

This is so awesome! And, those people should be ashamed of themselves...

But apart from that, that is sooooo exciting, and nice to see you do all of this for you and your family. :d

Thanks again guys. We're finally seeing the end of the tunnel with this cleaning of the house business. We just have to scrub the hell out of the floors now. lol.
Well, at least that's the case with the main living area upstairs. We have a really neat sort of inlaw apartment that still hasn't really been worked on yet. ugh.
But other than that, we're finally coming along. lol
Thanks so much guys for your good wishes and congrats. :)
